Sweet Summertime in Michigan

Sweet summertime in Michigan. It doesn’t get better than this! Breezy, warm days and cool evenings are some of my favorite things about home this time of year.

But the real reason for going home was to squeeze my family. Especially my little niece, Alaina. She’s three, and growing big so fast.

When I go home, it’s all about slowing down and connecting by disconnecting from social media and the online world. It’s my time to just be. In this world where time is ever fleeting, it slows down when I visit the little town I grew up.My tiny little hometown is so far out in the sticks that we don’t even get wifi. Which I didn’t really mind. Some of my favorite memories are doing wholesome things, outdoors, with my family. This trip was no different. This trip was no different.

I suggested going strawberry picking on a local farm and everyone was excited to join in on the fun.  I showed my niece how to pop the green part off the strawberries so she could eat them, and then every time I turned around to put a strawberry in my bucket, she had her hand in there taking them out one by one and devouring them. I had to show her how to pick her own so my bucket didn’t remain empty.

The warm breeze, the honey bees chasing after the clover, red-stained fingertips and the taste of sweet farm grown strawberries. These are the memories I will hold onto forever. Oh, and that sweet little voice saying “I eat it?” Yes, Alaina, you may eat them!
